I stumbled upon this gem of a crêperie in Vancouver last year when I went to Sinclair Centre to buy my Filofax. Right when I got out of entrance of the store facing the food court, the pancake scent lured me downstairs. At first I saw a sushi place and thought my olfactory sense has deceived me. As I walked further down and turned right, there it is, peeking from underneath the staircase, Crêpe de France. Behold I am in my own happy world. A nice little place that almost feels secluded from the hustle and bustle of downtown Vancouver.

Come and order from the chef himself, a friendly guy with a French accent. He prepares the crepes one by one in this tiny corner where you can watch (and drool) as the crepe unfolds…or folds, actually. The chef takes utmost care in making them, as if an art form. [And it is, in my opinion.]

I ordered the caramel with fruit, and was delighted to find not only strawberries, but apples and bananas, too. There’s a big heap of them all bundled up in that thin membrane of flour deliciousness. I asked the chef if it was okay to take a picture and he joshed that it would cost me extra. Haha. The crêpe above was mine…mine, mine! And the plastic container you see on the left? It’s the caramel. Oh god of yum, thank you.

I couldn’t wait to sit down and enjoy this mini feast of joy. Freshly cooked light thin pancake that melds nicely with the fruits with each bite. It is seriously…simply…GOOD. It took a lot of effort to take a picture first, but I just had to show you!

Sure there’s Cafe Crepe, but as a picky eater, I like Crêpe de France crêpes a lot better. The service is great, the price is excellent and I always feel like I’m paying so little for SO MUCH! You can choose from either the savory crêpes or the dessert crêpes, and you can also have a panini if you wish. The seating area of the Sinclair Centre food court is really nice. On the weekends, you can relax there and enjoy this wonderful treat. I read that they also have (free?) wifi, so eat and surf away if you wish. There aren’t that many ‘traffic’ people-wise, that’s why I liken this to a secret getaway in the city.

If you’re in Vancouver, be good to yourself and head over to Crêpe de France:
