Next to the local movie theatre, there is a strip mall. Logic would say that with the proximity to the movie theatre, a resturant should be sustainable. This location in particular has changed 3 times since the area has been open. There is a lot of competition around the area, especially with Buffalo Wild Wings directly across from this location, but the latest resturant to reside is Cafepino.
Joy and I decided after watching Cloverfield if it was still open, we would visit. We crossed the threshold just shy of 11PM.
The place looked very pleasant: Bright dining area, comfortable seating area, and walls lined with paintings. Another thing we noticed, it was not just a cafe but a full service restaurant. Our intention that night was just to relax with drinks. Cafepino uses Tilly brand for their coffee and they are served in Tilly-labeled mugs. When we took our first sips, we immedately noticed the temperature of the beverages were perfect.
While sipping, we read the menu that sits next to the placards for your order number. Cafepino has been a restuarant since 1958. Further investigation on their website would say Cafepino did not have its roots in Phoenix, rather in France where they have a rich history of success. They decided to bring their tradition to Phoenix and it looks like it will be successful.
We finished the drinks but we agreed to come back for a more complete evaluation. We went back the next night, ordered our drinks, but we also got what they called “Cookies and Cream,” par-baked peanut butter walnut cookie topped with a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of chocolate then garnished with strawberries and whipped cream. If you want to satisfy a sweet fix, this dish will definately fill that desire.
We will need to visit again to see how this french cafe does meals, but at the moment this cafe is now our favorite late-night or after-movie drink spot. You will not be disappointed with the service or the food Cafepino has to offer. I look forward to seeing you there as well.

2It is as tasty in real life too. Perhaps some day we’ll indulge in one.
