Scenes from Seattle (Part II)

Before we started this website, Dan and I used to send photos from our phones to friends and relatives saying, “Wish you were here” when we want to share food and restaurants we’re trying, or places we’re visiting. Now, we get to say that to all of you and share images of our experiences. I love being able to do it. The beauty from the simple things, such as a relaxing day, a beautiful afternoon, the burst of colors from nature, good food, new experiences, etc., is overwhelming to keep to oneself. I think it’s criminal not to share it. We hope you like them!

The first thing that greeted us when we entered the Pike Place Market were the flowers. Cheap flowers! We’re talking about $5 to $10.

I wanted to buy buckets of them to bring home!

Then there were the fresh ingredients.

That rainbow of good stuff.

I squealed when I saw all the different pasta flavors. This is the Pappardelle’s Pasta stand and you can purchase the pastas online.

It was sensory overload.

And then…there was CHEESE at Beecher’s Handmade Cheese (be sure to check out their seasonal cheese club). Amen.

My mom and I couldn’t have eaten the cheese curds any faster. Haha. If we weren’t heading to Vancouver, I would’ve bought a lot of cheeses. Instead, I just stuffed myself with ‘em. Uh-oh.

It’s been a busy week for us as you can tell. We’ve hopped from Seattle to Vancouver and have been all over the place seeing friends. Dan’s back in sunny Scottsdale this afternoon and I’m still here in Vangroovy, enjoying my O Canada. And soon enough you’ll hear me complaining about the rain. Good times.

I love those beautiful flowers! And the garlic! mmmmm. I wish we had a nice fresh market like that around here. One of my favorite parts of watching Andrew Zimmern’s food/travel show is when he hits the local markets. I can imagine, like you said, sensory overload!

You have just touched on an often overlooked aspect of blogging, you have just managed to share your memories with many other folk. Thanks for this, the pictures are great as usual. I wish flowers were this cheap here in my part of the world.

Beautiful picture of the flowers great colors, had me wishing that mine were blooming right now!

  4. Seattle is my hometown, so I’ve really loved seeing your travels there.

I had one question – do you carry a smaller point and shoot with you, or do you just use your “bigger” camera everywhere? I carry my D70 with me most places, but I’ve really been thinking about getting a smaller point and shoot for convenience. Any thoughts or suggestions?

GeekMom — We watch that show, too and love it when he goes to the local markets and try stuff. Hehe.

Arnold — Thanks. How much are flowers there?

Rachel — Thank you. :) Did you plant bulbs?

Metroknow — Aw, cool! I carry a point and shoot, but when we went to Seattle, I just lugged around the big D70 because I could never get shots equivalent to it with the P&S (altho, it is 3 years old!).

Elle — Thanks! You should! I think you’ll be tickled pink as I was. :)
